However, after struggling through some simple updates to two of my apps I noticed the iOS 6.0 simulators are slightly different depending on which computer I'm using. Everything is fine when using my 3-year old MacBook Air, but when using my 5-year old iMac the simulator does not display the image of an iPhone 5, (or any other iPhone, for that matter). It merely displays a large vertical rectangle. I'm assuming the simulator is corrupt and, hopefully, the problem will resolve itself when I install the next update to Xcode. However, Is there some way I can just speed up the process and download & install just the simulator?
It's not corrupt. Behaves as designed (probably).
In my experience, the iOS Simulator displays the bezel only when it will fit completely on the screen. Perhaps your iMac's pixel dimenstions are smaller screen than those of your Air? 13" MBAs have surprisingly large pixel dimensions. The problem would be acute when simulating the iPhone 5. I wonder if the simulator gives up on the bezel if the iP5 version wouldn't fit, even if it's simulating iP<5.

Strange request, and I'm not sure your customers would agree, but you know your needs better than I. iOS will attempt to display your app on the full 4" screen only if you supply a 640 x 1136 default startup image (default name email@hidden).
