What I find convenient is to have one partition per OS and on all partitions create a user with the same name and uid and point their home folder to the *same* place.  In other words, they all share the same home folder instead of having separate ones.  This means that your work flow is not so disrupted: your dock icons are the same, desktop is the same, etc.

You can also run in a VM.  I believe Apple even sanctions this, as long as you're running on Apple hardware (incase you care).
