Xcode folder for xcode-select

  • Thread-topic: Xcode folder for xcode-select

Recently, I was using Xcode 4.3.3 and encountered an 'ibtool failed with
exit code 255' error.
I have Xcode 4.3.3 installed here: /Applications/Xcode433.app
and Xcode 4.4.1 installed here: /Applications/Xcode.app.

I figured that the error might be related to using a newer version of
ibtool with an older version of Xcode. I used Xcode-select to switch to
Xcode 4.3.3, and the error went away.

Initially, 'xcode-select -print-path' output:
/Applications/Xcode.app/Contents/Developer. I don't recall ever setting it
to that.
I used 'sudo xcode-select -switch
/Applications/Xcode433.app/Contents/Developer' to switch to my version of
Xcode 4.3.3. The man page says to use '/Applications/Xcode.app' for the
path. The first example on the man page is 'xcode-select -switch
/Applications/Xcode.app'

Which path is correct, /Applications/Xcode.app or
/Applications/Xcode.app/Contents/Developer? Do both work? Is this
documented somewhere? Is the xcode-select man page out of date or
incorrect?

Thanks,
Chuck
