Me too. The general reasoning is not specific to text. When being copied *from*, apps put a variety of representations on the pasteboard; it is up to the app developer to decide what a reasonable variety is. When being pasted *to*, apps typically take the richest representation available that they can accept from the pasteboard. For example, in a word processing app, if I move a paragraph from one page to another, and the paragraph contains styled text, I do not expect the styles to be thrown away when I cut and paste.
