I use Eclipse for C++ on Apple platforms (at least editing) at least for the same reason. And I still keep Xcode open just for deployment.

That's (or the lack of it) is one of the reasons I've ditched Xcode and
moved over to Eclipse, now I only need to figure out how to use it for
iPhone
development, all hints in that direction are appreciated...
Seriously, having hung around this list for sometime a lot
of the problems seem revolve around IDE UI and functionality
issues that just don't exist in many other IDEs or have been
solved years ago.
Not wanting to promote Eclipse especially I just say
that with it I can do my C,C++,Java development for
Mac OS X, Windows, Linux and Android all in one, very decent
environment. If I ever again venture to iOS development
I'm going to have a very hard look at how this could be
achieved within Eclipse or at least with minimal interaction
with XCode.
Ok, back to lurking mode, sorry for the OT noise.
