Thanks. It appears that OpenSSL was functioning properly.

I can't tell you how disappointed I am to learn an i7 machine
purchased in June 2012 does not have an instruction introduced in 2011
(especially since I asked the kid at the Apple Store about the latest
instructions - AES-NI, rdrand, and quadword multiply).
