For a normal project selecting a Target and using the Editor will allow me to Add various types of build phases.
But not for an External Build project. All the Add Build Phase items are greyed out. All that shows up in the Build Phases is Target Dependencies.

Anyone have a solution that will allow output from running a script show up in the Xcode build log?

Thanks

Peter
For the record - I duplicated the External Build template and removed a couple of lines. Now I can add build phases.
Obviously Apple does not support this. Nevertheless I filed this enhancement request #16607227

I want to add a Cocoa GUI to an external build named GNU APL.
Presently I use an Xcode 5.1 External Build project.
But this does not allow me to add Build Phases to the target.
The Editor items are greyed out.
In my research into this I discovered that removing two lines from the
External Build Template.info re-enabled them.
The two lines were
 <key>TargetType</key>
 <string>Legacy</string>
So my request is that this be done for future releases. Thanks.... Peter
Updated my Enhancement request as follows:
I hereby withdraw the specific suggestion of removing the two lines relating to Target Type.
I have found a more elegant way how to add my own extensions to the existing External Build template
using the Ancestor mechanism. However it has taken me quite some time to figure out the details of how to do this.
It would be really kind of Apple to document the specifications for making User templates,
and making available any tools to assist in doing so.

respect
Peter
