More on this.
I have two volumes on my system.
Deleted all versions of XCode (Trash+Empty) except for the one in /Applications.
Copy XCode from /Applications and to /Disk2/Documents/Backup.
Delete XCode from /Applications.
Restart
Launch App Store, I can now Install XCode, so I do. At this point it says it’s 139 MB update, it downloads it (or says it does), then says installing, but it never terminates, it just goes round and round with the time remaining drifting from 15 minutes to 1 minute and then back again.
Quit App Store
Restart
Launch App Store, now it says I can installed again, but this time says the it’s a 2.13 GB download, I tell it to install, it then goes from 40 something minutes to 3 minues immediately and then goes into the same loop as above.
When I look at Disk Accesses it shows Disk2 is being access heavily, nothing on the /Applications drive.
After a long time - 20 mins or so, I get a message saying it failed to download and to try to install again from the “Purchases” tab. When I relaunch App Store, XCode is no where to be seen in Purchases but it says it’s installed the 5.1.1 update in the “Updates” tab. XCode is not in /Applicaitions when I look.
Delete all copies of XCode from all volumes (trash+empty),
Restart
Launch App Store, in “Updates” Tab, it says XCode 5.1.1 has been installed.
In Purchases XCode is not listed.
I can now “install it” (2.13 GB) which I do. Now when I look is purchases it says “XCode 15 April 2014 Waiting….. PAUSE (greyed out)”.
The date the waiting text flashes every few seconds and the activity wheel spins.
If I look in /Applications in the FInder it shows XCode.appdownload as being downloaded (updating progress bar).
(maybe a clue here is that this time it asked me for Apple ID and password?).
The file evenutually downloads and at this point, the progress in “Purchases” updates to a Full (Complete) Progress bar and it sits like that for a while before eventually disappearing from “Purchases” again. However, this time it has installed correctly and I have version 5.1.1.
The next update that is released I will probably have to do the same again?
