As a bit of a wild and semi-educated guess, I’d say the problem is that XCode (or Keynote etc.) were installed initially from a pre App-Store source.
I say this, because I seem to recall that at some point I deleted XCode completely from the machine in question and then it showed up again in the AppStore, and I could “Install” it again via the App Store. The problem with this is that when the next update comes along the problems starts over again as if there is some information from the non App Store version that is stopping it?
Is there anything I can zap either in XCode or App Store App that might make it reset itself?
Thanks a lot
Dave

Fortunately I don't have a bandwidth cap and just download the whole thing every time right from the developer portal and install it and since I started doing that, it's all been fine. I really do think if you can avoid using the AppStore for Xcode, avoid it and grab the download from the link.

My normal procedure in that case is to try one of my other two machines and if I get one of them to work, copy it over to the others. The AppStore has never really liked me.

I checked back after about 20 minutes and found that XCode has now disappeared from the “Updates” completely. If I click the “Purchases” tab, I see XCode under “Other Purchases” at the top of the Window. It shows a greyed out “PAUSE” button, the text “Waiting…” and the date “15 April 2014” flash about every second and the activity indicator at the top flashes at at the same time. However, I don’t see a progress bar and the download still hasn’t finished after about 60 minutes. I’ve tried qutting the App Store Application and Restarting the whole machine. I then launch “App Store” again and click update/purchases as above and get the same results.

Every time I’ve done an update it seems I hit some kind of problem and, apart from one game which has similar issues, I’ve not had prolems with any other App.
