Codesigning and gatekeeper

I keep failing at working out codesigning and gate keeper.
At a first pass I'd just like to codesign and not worry about entitlements.
I have an application that contains a LaunchAgent and a command line executable in its application package.
I believe I'm codesigning all three products when archiving
I have some questions
Is the 2012 WWDC video Gatekeeper and developer id still relevant or has it been superseded with information relevant to Xcode 5?
Why when I click the download link for the SD version of the video does it then play in the browser?
• For some reason though it says download, to download the video instead of watching immediately you have to right click and
select download linked file from the context menu.
In organizer when I select the archive and click on validate I get the message "My Application does not contain a single–bundle application or contains multiple products. Please select another archive, or adjust your scheme to create a single–bundle application.
How do I go about validating the application when it does contain multiple products, the suggestion here is not helpful at all?
Is validating the right thing to be doing?
And lastly, how do I go about removing any evidence of the application having previously been installed so that I can test on my machine that the application is codesigned when I download it from a server with safari? I assume just scrubbing all copies from the machine isn't enough. I have been looking at the command line tool spctl but the man page is not particularly helpful?
TIA
Kevin
