When committing, I had to check the box next to the <schemeName>.xcscheme file. This is within xcshareddata/xcschemes. I was expecting that file to be checked for the commit.
The scheme file got moved to the xcshareddata after the repository was created or cloned. Xcode doesn’t routinely add files to the repository after that. (Xcode 5 does, for example, add source files that you add via ‘Add Files…’, but IIRC Xcode 4 didn’t do that.) It’s usual to have to check the box for “new” files you want to commit. Is it common practice to create a set of schemes that are shared and named accordingly?
I don’t know, but I’d imagine that in most cases the project team would use one approach or the other, but not both.
