Well, since Gatekeeper didn’t start until 10.8, the only older OS X in question is 10.8.  I suppose that the plural “versions” is correct in the sense that *any* app will “work” in an OS X version without Gatekeeper :)

Regarding 10.8, it appears that I have been (unknowningly) shipping with version2 signatures since last autumn.  I know I have many users on 10.8, have tested myself on 10.8 recently, and have not seen any grrrrrrs from Gatekeeper.
