I downloaded 5.1.1, created a new project, put in a few lines of @properties and some ivars (mainly to see what kind of error messages would come up in 5.1.1) and clicked Build. This strange error came up immediately. It went no further, not even trying to compile.
"The run destination My Mac 64–bit is not valid for Running the scheme ‘var, prop, synth'. The scheme 'var, prop, synth' contains no buildables that can be built for the SDKs supported by the run destination My Mac 64–bit. Make sure your targets all specify SDKs that are supported by this version of Xcode.”
I couldn’t find any applicable instructions with Google. My iMac is 64 bit (runs photoshop cs6}.
I was simply stopped cold when I couldn’t find any explanation on my own for the strange (to me) error message about SDKs and 64-bits. Did I have a bad download of 5.1.1? What did I do wrong? It didn’t even look at the code. This is daunting because I can’t find things like what SDKs I have or need, Build settings panel, etc. Is there a guide somewhere? Only one line shows up in the Applications list, “Xcode,” with no contents listed, unlike 3.2.6 which has a dozen entries including SDKs.
Later I tried again with another new project, clicking Build immediately before entering any code. It succeeded. I pasted in the same code and it succeeded again, with the expected error messages for the code. So, I conclude that 5.1.1 has many of the appearances of working and my first attempt was a fluke. It would be nice to know why that went wrong so that I don’t make the same mistake again.
Your recommendations are greatly appreciated, especially regarding how to find a guide to things that are different than they are in 3.2.6.
