Over the past year or more, Time Machine has occasionally notified me that it was unable to complete a regularly schedule backup. The Console log shows lots of error messages when this happens, but they don't give me a clue as to what the problem is. Rebooting the computer always cures it immediately and for at least several days or even weeks. This, and the fact that the other 2 or 3 computers on the network continue to back up properly, tells me that the problem is on this one computer, not on my AirPort Time Capsule.
In attempting to puzzle out the pattern, the one standout common feature of all of these episodes is that I have been spending a lot of time coding in Xcode over a period of several days. This is not proof, because I spend most of my time coding in Xcode on this computer. But I do have the sense that it has never happened during the occasional periods of several days in which I do no coding and Xcode has not been running.
Is anybody aware of a problem like this that might be traceable to Xcode, or a mechanism by which Xcode might cause the problem? |
