Likewise, I do merges on pbxproj files pretty often and it almost always works fine. (And if it doesn’t, it’s under version control so I can always revert back, right?)

I close the project window in Xcode if I’m doing surgery in another app, but Xcode does seem to be pretty good about detecting changes in the file and reloading the project.
