If you open the package and double click the executable (in Contents/MacOS) it will launch, and it appears to work OK.
So, you can drag an alias from the executable in the package to your desktop or Applications folder, and run that. It does seem like it opens a terminal window that runs in the background, but other than that, it seems to work.

Agree. Too much color and contrast where it is not required, and not enough where it would be useful - a bad combo of garish and flat.
