How to force Xcode to finish indexing?

Xcode 5.1 rarely completes indexing my project without getting "paused". When it says "Indexing Paused" it never resumes. Consequently I can't do things like refactor, etc, "Can’t refactor during indexing. Wait for indexing to finish and retry." I can't find a way, short of rebooting Xcode over & over, to get it to do the indexing. Is there a manual Do Indexing command somewhere I can invoke?
