I never said that experience is "fine and dandy"
experience is bad, no doubt.
however, few words
every developer tools upgrade should be carefully prepared
in my organization we have literally millions line of code. every compiler change (g++, clang(Xcode), VS) is a pain
it's a special process and it's included in the cost of business (unfortunately, I'd add)
20 min to me is nothing, just adding c++11 switch for clang/g++ to our build harness
took about 2 months (warning, compilation error fixing, verification, testing e.t.c.)
the same for moving to the next boost, ICU version.
so do your development with N-1 tools version, where N is a latest version
test carefully version N, don't be surprised to waste much more than 20 min.
only after that move to version N, and don't forget to bill it - it's just normal software development process, nothing more
