I had the 3.5 GHz, 6-core Pro with 32 GB of ram and 1 TB SSD at work. Half the machine was devoted to a Win7 VM used for FPGA hardware design and simulation. The other half of the machine resources were for Xcode and everyday tasks. That sucker was fast with all CPU's running full out. I miss that machine more than the job, lol.

Hi,

I’m thinking about getting a new Mac. I have a Mac Pro 2008 and wanted something as powerful as this machine was back in its day.

From looking at the Apple Product List, I’m a bit disappointed:

1. The Mac Pro as no Hard Disk Capability in built.
-I have a 8 TB RAID setup on 4 drives on my existing Mac Pro.

If I went this route and wanted to maintain a largish RAID array, I’d have to get a separate enclosure and a Thunderbolt to SATA converter?

2. Mac Mini - Can’t hook up enough displays - I have 4 on my existing Mac Pro and has the same problem with RAID Storage.

3. iMac - Same as above but I get an extra Monitor I don’t need.

As it stands now, I’m wondering if I should either leave it a while or get a used newest old-style Mac Pro.

I wish they’d do a Mac Pro Jr that was based on the old style Mac Pro
