Xcode is adequate for comparing diffs between versions. I’ve had just enough screw ups in other areas that I do not use it to actually manage my git repositories.
The simple choice is to have a terminal window open next to your Xcode window and use the command line. Except then I need a notes window open, too, for a cheat sheet to remember some of the esoteric commands that are rarely used.
I tried SourceTree but did not like it. Nothing wrong with the program, but for whatever reason I found myself using the command line more than it. Then I tried git Tower. It is now what I used to do about 95% of my source control. The other 5% is mostly comparing diffs in Xcode.
But “better" is in the eye of the holder. What is better for me might not be better for you. There are a bunch you can try, many of them free. See http://www.git-scm.com/downloads/guis
