This generalization is both unfounded and false. What makes it difficult to help someone inexperienced with Mac development is the use of terminology in ways that aren't consistent with what they actually mean in context and ambiguity about what the asker is actually trying to accomplish.

I write software for about 20 platforms. The Mac was not my first, nor is it my only current target. What I can tell you is that in my observation the biggest hurdle faced by experienced developers new to the Mac is a tendency to try to hammer the platform into the idioms they already know, often ignoring much more straightforward mechanisms they have available.

The Macintosh OS is the highest volume UNIX on the planet. If you're going to support it, it makes sense to actually support it. That starts with learning not just how to accomplish specific tasks but to discern which specific tasks need to be done in the first place.
