Does anyone else use Xcode in VMware with older versions of MacOS?
So far I had Xcode 3.x in virtual 10.6 and it all worked fine. This way I
could support PPC and MacOS 10.4.

Anyone else using VMware/VirtualBox for Xcode with reassuring thoughts or
ideas? Should I slowly abandon my older Mac projects and concentrate on iOS?
Not directly of help, but I too use VMware Fusion to run a 10.6 (server) VM to
run Xcode 3.2.6. But that is only to build old 32-bit Carbon plugins using an
old GUI library. I decided to ditch PPC and pre-10.6 support on the basis that
I couldn't test on a non-Intel / pre-10.6 platform. So I can only confirm at
least part of what you've seen: the Xcode 3 + virtual 10.6 combination works
fine.
I have created VMs with newer OS X versions, but not seriously used them
enough to determine their viability.
That all said, I was merely using Xcode 3.2.6 + VM as a build platform. I did
the bulk of my editing on the host, in a source folder shared with the VM. So
I'd be trying that as much as possible with later OS + Xcode version
combinations, and strictly only use the VM to hit the build button in Xcode.
Of course, if you have to make use of version-specific Interface Builder
functionality, you could be more stuck than I was.

And another question, was Carbon Dev shut down?

Not that I'm aware. As the archives at that link shows, there was still a bit
of traffic there last month. It's a pretty low traffic list these days.
