This suppression feature won't accomplish what Richard is asking about. My

This isn't what Steve is saying. What many people do (including me) is
have their mailer automatically sort mail into different mailboxes based
on what is in the To: and CC: lines. For instance if one or the other
of those lines contains "applescript-users" it goes into my AS-users
folder, so I can read all those messages together, or ignore them if I
don't feel like dealing with applescript for a few days.
Mail that's addressed specifically to *me* goes in my "General Mail"
folder.
Anything that is no addressed to me, or to any mailing list to which I
am subscribed gets dumped in a "probable Spam" folder that I look over
briefly once a week or so, just to make sure I haven't forgotten to code
in a new mailing list and otherwise heads for the trash.
People who put me in BCC headers, and don't expose either my address or
a list I read end up in this folder and there is a good chance I'll
never see their message.
But I do it nonetheless because it means about 90% of my spam stays out
of the mail folders I actually use. Thus, I've got a half-decent spam
filter already without doing anything special.
This is what garbanzito means by "why a spam filter script isn't
necessary". The feature (and common configuration setup) of mail
readers that made many of us miss the original is the very feature that
does 80-90% of what a specialized spam filter would do.
