I still have this reaction but after a while you can succeed in using it (not enjoying it, just using it as in "I'm using Visual Studio").

Maybe it is a joke ?

Yes and no.

Some settings in XCode are as far from obvious as in Visual Studio. And it's as difficult as in Visual to get access to some settings.

I tend to believe XCode was supposed to be the son of CodeWarrior, PB and iTunes. Well, the result is not as good as CodeWarrior when it comes to multiple windows situation, not as good as PB when it comes to quickly work with multiple files and have quick access to settings, and not as good as iTunes when it comes to playing mp3 ;-)
