descender for glyph

Hello,
I want to draw a NSGlyph and therefor need its height.
How to get it?

NSFont's boundingRectForGlyph: ignores everything below the baseline.
If I use an NSAttributedString and get its bounds, they are for the largest characters of its font, not for the characters of this string.
If I append the glyph to a NSBezierPath and get its bounds: guess what: everything below the baseline is ignored.

So what to try next?
