In my hands, killing the Dock seems to have reset things, and app image
updates work as expected for at least several hours afterwards.  Again, this
is 10.4.2.  Killing the Dock is not something you'd necessarily want to
recommend to users of your app, of course, so this isn't exactly a fix...
