Does anyone know of a simpler method to spot these files, such as with

Hi,
I don't know how much help this will be but you could certainly automate the -re-saving without that option- as a photoshop action, with any file having that action applied once dropped in a hot folder or on a droplet. At least you would save time. =:-)
Photoshop 7 is supposed to have proper Applescript support, which may be even more useful, but at least you can do this now.
If you need any help with this let me know and I will send you the action off list.
Best Regards,
Malcolm.
