i've got an 8mm spectro (hi steven! i bought your PM5, remember?), and
acutally, it works fine with the spectroscan table. the trick is that
not all of the charts can be used, since the patches need to be bigger
than the spectroscan layouts assume.
i've been using it with ProfileMaker's TC3.5 layout, scaling the chart
up to the maximum size of the table (~9"x11") for our grand format
output (<370dpi) and lower linescreen halftone work (<40lpi). it's
worked well. I've also used it with Monaco's 378 patch layout, again
scaled up to suit, and gotten good results with it. i've been happier
with PM5, though.
the standard ECI charts, etc, won't work on the spectroscan, since they
can't be scaled up large enough to read the patches. well, at least i
haven't figured out a trick to, anyway. hasn't really been needed, honestly.
drop me a note, steven, i'll work on this with you. i think if we just
co-ordinate on which charts to use, you can come up with a good comparison.

While the 8mm will probably read more consistent than the 4.5mm, what
would be best (for any irregular surface such as canvas or fabrics)
would an integrating-sphere instrument. The 8mm Spectrolino does NOT
work with the Spectroscan from my understanding. Since it would be an
entirely manual measurement process either way, you might want to go
with the sphere.

Does anyone out there have a Spectrolino 8mm Aperture Spectrophotometer?
I would like to have a canvas chart read with one and compare it to my
4.5mm Lino.
Thanks
