Hi all
Just read an interesting article in the UK's Image Reports magazine, January
2005 on HP's 'policy' on CM.
The article is not on their web site at present.
In brief HP's colour man, John Meyer is proposing a number of new CM
features.
AN RGM (Reference Medium Gamut) and what is termed a 'single printer-like
gamut' for inkjet I guess. This is suggested as an addition to the CIELab
PCS, giving a smaller but standard colour space only a little larger then
the gamut that the better CMYK printers can handle.
This, if adopted by the ICC for ICC4,xx would first use an perceptual RI,
and be called sCMYK.
This transform is considered by HP to be less harsh, a milder transform,
when going from sRGB to CMYK, then using CIELab and the PCS ICC route.
This sCMYK can then, via a minor conversion, be changed for each inkjet
printer.
The concept seems to be aimed at the prosumer inkjet printing market?
Anybody got any more info on this? And is it important?
Regards
Paul Sherfield
