I encountered the same problem at a Mac OS X Graphics and Imaging Demo given by Jim Heise (today at Apple Computer and previously at Adobe) in May 2004 at the Drupa 2004 (Germany, Duesseldorf).

He couldn't explain this to my when I asked him after the demo, and even after I emailed him if he found the solution I got no response :-( I also couldn't find out why, and I tweaked PS settings and ColorSync settings a lot...

I'm not sure wether this is a Mac OS X problem or a Photoshop problem. It's really annoying, myabe someone else has a solution...

If I open a photo with embedded sRGB profile in Preview/Safari/iphoto/mail it is consistently more saturated and darker than the same photo opened in photoshop (using sRGB working space). Same result if photo is embedded with Adobe RGB or any other profile. I understand that Mac will assume the monitor profile for nontagged photos, but I can't figure out what is happening with tagged images.
