When building profiles for the Epson 9600 with Matte Black ink, for use
with the Epson Driver, there are 12 Media Type settings to choose from.
It is not always intuitive to know which media type would be most
appropriate - e.g., Doubleweight Matte, Enhanced Matte, Watercolor
Paper - Radiant White, Smooth Fine Art, Textured Fine Art, and Matte
Paper - Posterboard, to name but a few. (Hahnemühle recommends
Watercolor-Radiant White for their Photorag, for example.)
When printing through PS CS (Print with Preview), using the Epson
driver, rumor has it that the media type determines the amount of ink
laid down. I tried printing (untagged) targets with 4 media types and
could not see or measure any significant density or colorimetric
difference. Is there an error in the design of my test?
Is there a rational way to choose a media type when profiling a new
media? Does it make a difference?
Thanks in advance,
