Dear Terry and Roger,

I would join your enthusiasm wholeheartedly if it were not for the fact that
the press conditions assumed by GRACoL's SWOP profiles (SWOP2006_Coated3v2
and SWOP2006_Coated5v2, which are referred to here as "C3" and "C5") are
currently not being met by what is probably a sizable majority of print
providers. I have seen a number of them starting to advertise that they "use
GRACoL," but those are still few and in between -- and I also question how
much of that claim is more marketing than actually a reflection of how
closely they are really matching actual GRACoL print conditions.

Also, I would like to underscore what may seem obvious to some of us, but
may be worth reminding -- namely that US Web Coated (SWOP) v2 and GRACoL's
SWOP profiles do *not* produce the exactly same visual results when using
the same set of CMYK numbers, though SWOP2006_Coated5v2 comes close.

To illustrate that point, see 2 screenshots from CMYK color lists in
ColorThink Pro at these URLs:

US Web Coated (SWOP) v2 compared to SWOP2006_Coated3v2:
<http://tinyurl.com/awkndq>

US Web Coated (SWOP) v2 compared to SWOP2006_Coated5v2:
<http://tinyurl.com/bxf23t>

Each screenshot shows the same list of CMYK color numbers with 2 different
profiles assigned to it: US Web Coated (SWOP) v2 is assigned to the color
list on the left, whereas SWOP2006_Coated3v2 or SWOP2006_Coated5v2 is
assigned to the one on the right. The color differences are expressed in
units of DeltaE 2000, using the Absolute Colorimetric rendering intent.
