Fink & Virex

Somewhat off-topic:
I installed Fink, then updated Virex.
Two days later, I read on MacNewsNet that installing the Virex update has destroyed the Fink installation, and that there is no way to have both.
Does the newest X11 update offer any solution or fix?
How do I safely disable Fink, or do I need to bother?
Any other suggestion?
