OK, so you mean there's a totally different keyboard layout scheme in 10.2
(much like the printing scheme changed totally?) that lives in
/System/Library/Keyboard Layouts (as opposed to the old one in
/System/Library/Keyboards)? (Not that I found recognisable keymapping
files in there...)

Fair enough, but with my keyboard layout set to British from the
Preferences menus, X11 xterms don't match KeyCaps, they have dead grave,
circum and tilde instead of normal ones, and the euro symbol (alt-shift-2)
doesn't work (though that last one is probably to do with the symbol being
missing from the xterm font or some other reason that doesn't count as a
bug).
I'm still quite amazed that just a few keys could "go wrong" like
this...seems like you ought to either get them all right, or all something
else (where something else is another correct keyboard layout, or, a
complete mess, say offset by one).

Well, that would be one way to have working ~`^ keys for now. But why are
the "obsolete" keymapping files still supported in this new app if they
are obsolete?
(questions, questions... :-)
