You are absolutely correct. My confusion stemmed from the wrong impression I had that any X11 application would activate /A/U/X11.app and not /U/X11/X11.app. Now that I tested your new (combined)
X11.app, I must agree yours is the way to go.

Right, but that means xterm would start with EVERY X11 application, not
just with X11.app (which is just a shortcut to executing xterm). Think
of X11.app AS xterm and not the X server.

Think of X11.app AS something that just executes xterm. xterm is not
started with the server. X11.app starts xterm. If you don't want xterm
to show up, launch the X11 application you wanted.

Sorry for that. There were originally 2
X11.apps which caused much
confusion. To fix the extra dock icon and help with consistency,
they're now the same bundle.
