So, when xcode creates a file in response to a new file menu selection (in my current work, C++) header comments are automatically generated for the file.

Is there a way to create our own header comment templates and can these be referenced based on project or are they referenced based on xcode instance.

See

for a good blog posting on the process.

Note the error on that page: the product name is actually "Xcode," not "XCode."

In addition to the above mentioned howto, note that this also works if you put the templates into "~/Library/Application Support/Apple/Developer Tools/File Templates".

However, what is really bugging me, is the limited set of substitutions available. Firstly, why do they have to be "binary"? Secondly, I'd like to have the ability to filter the file through a script when instantiating it. Because one thing I sorely miss is to the ability to generate include guards the way I like them: uppercase and normalized (all non-alnum characters replaced by _), possibly suffixed by an UUID. I currently have this working with a small user-script I run manually after creating a new header file. But this is a quite tedious procedure.
