Another thing I will do is that if I have a bug that has been marked
as duplicate or whatever, with each new release of the OS, I'll
re-file the bug. If it is marked as working as designed, I re-file it
as an enhancement request.

If there is a major beta-cyle (say 10.4 -> 10.5), I'll make sure it is
filed under that beta release. I assume that bugs beyond one major
release have been archived away and the chances that someone has
actually looked at my 2-3 y/o bug is very slim -- so you need to
re-introduce the issue to the teams.

For some issues, I'm telling Apple that don't want the casual brush
off. I become a little pain in the rear for that bug. As they say, the
squeaky wheel gets the grease.

I understand that Apple gets 1000s of bugs, but if there is a
passionate issue (and I'm sure it isn't a very edge case scenario), I
find a little persistence can help (but not always).

My favourite is <rdar://2965275>, for the fact that FileMerge can't
compare files with Mac line endings. Filed June 2002 (almost 1/2 a
decade ago!), marked duplicate, and still not fixed.

I appreciate that Xcode is a big project with countless bugs, changing
environments, and all the other things Shawn Erickson just mentioned,
but I understand how this kind of thing discourages Rob and others from
filing bugs. If filing bugs took no time, then sure, file away; but
filing bugs takes up my time, and if I have to wait 1/2 a decade for a
fix, well...

(Personally, my approach of late has been to file brief bugs, and put
the onus on Apple to contact me for more info if they need it.)
