For some reason, some people have started to post scripts here using commas
to represent the continuation character (made by option-L), which gets
mangled by server, as does SE's soft-wrapping if you simply leave it out.
Please - would anyone doing so - or using any other "homemade"
representation - please _say so_? You can hardly expect others to
understand.
I noticed when I recently posted a script to this list, the
continuation characters (which I made with option-return in the
Script Editor) got converted to commas. It wasn't something I tried
to did explicitly.
I was sending the script from Eudora. I knew the list wouldn't
handle flowed text, but would rather force the lines to wrap, so I
was trying to make the script work as shown by keeping the lines
short. But then, it ended up with all those commas.
What am I supposed to do to get a script to post to the list properly?
(I suppose it's futile to expect that in the year 2010, the last diehards
will have finally given up Emailer, and everyone will have fast-speed
internet, so we can finally either allow HTML or everyone will also have
format=flowed email option, and soft-wrapping can be effected in email by
everyone. On mailing lists where everyone has one or the other of these,
scripts come over so much better and more easily. Never mind, please don't
start flaming. I'll drop it.)
Yeah, would you diehards get with the program?? (:^)) Every other
mailing list I'm on, like the ones on eGroups, lets us send
format-flowed and HTML messages. It sure would be nice here.
By the way, I saw that somebody had earlier said:
*Claris eMailer: (yes I STILL use eMailer) very capable, far more stable
than any of the alternatives. the only reason it's not on my excellent
list is it's impending death.
I don't know if anyone has already said this, I haven't been paying
attention here for a while, but...
I just wanted to add that I used to have bad instability problems
with Eudora Pro a while back on my iMac, but I haven't had ANY
problems at all with recent versions, it now seems quite stable (and
I handle pretty massive amounts of email). It seems to have good
scripting support features, from what I've seen, and you can use it
for free, and it handles HTML mail and styled text and has filters
and can support multiple users and multiple email accounts per user
and all that modern stuff. Also, they have excellent online
information and customer support, in my experience.
So, if you are thinking of switching from eMailer to another
scriptable email program, I would recommend you try Eudora
