I am just looking for a simple script that will allow me to place it in the
"Startup Items" folder that will rebuild my desktop when I start my
computer. Any suggestions?
Rebuilding the desktop usually requires action before the computer
gets around to launching items in the startup items folder.
I'm not recommending this method (see disclaimer below), because it
usually isn't wise to mess around with invisible files unless you
know "exactly" what you are doing, but...
You "could" run a script in the "Shutdown Items" folder which deletes
the appropriate desktop files (they're invisible) and then, when you
start the computer, it should force a rebuild without further user
interaction. This method would probably require another restart after
the rebuild in order for all icons to display properly.
Deleting the desktop files, which is the method used by TechTool Pro,
forces the system to create new desktop files, instead of rebuilding
those which may be corrupt.
Disclaimer: DON'T DO IT...unless you are scripting an application,
such as TechTool Pro, to do it for you.
