I understand that Photoshop is a bazooka but I wasn't aware of the
flyswatters available, never having needed to create a slideshow before.
Thanks to your genuinely insightful and appreciated suggestions I see
there's a ton of things available. I've downloaded and examined all
mentioned - GraphicConverter, JPEGView, iView MultiMedia, Extensis
Portfolio, and a couple others I can't think of right now, and ALL appear
to have what I (read, "client") want, or close to it. But the best I've
been able to do with any so far (GraphicConverter) when a new image is
added is to endure a screen hiccup (the desktop appears for a second or
two) and then start over from the beginning of the list of images. (Within
the addItems folder action I type escape to terminate the current slideshow
and then start it up again from the same folder. Is that the correct way?)
One other reason I went with Photoshop (in addition to the fact that a site
license exists) is that from AppleScript I could remember exactly what file
I was displaying when interrupted by a new arrival, stick that arrival at
the end of the list, and there's no visible interruption in the slideshow.
(I can't claim to know why this is important, but...). If the screen could
go black while the backstage props are moved around then it would be
perfect.
Unfortunately, with the imposed time constraint, I have to decide whether
to persist with an app that's soooo close but may or may not ultimately do
this seamlessly, or jump to another app in hopes that it can. I certainly
wouldn't have gotten this far without your input. I'm very much obliged.
