Steve,

I take what you mean, I hope, well. I wrote the script in a misguided attempt to create a script for users who are not as comfortable as myself with OS X's shell. I thought it would be of assistance for some less advanced users, before they switch. Although, I found Apple's handling somewhat intuitive, and wouldn't criticize their handling of the situation.

For instance, I found myself struggling to explain the concept of file name completion. If the user doesn't know how to utilize that, then spaces (or extended ascii) in a file name become a problem, presuming they attempt to use the shell at all.

Your description of filename issues in Mac OS X seems accurate to me.

I will not present this script to anyone else, since it seems clear to me that it will just as likely cause problems as solve them.

I hate it when I make materially incorrect statements. Thanks for correcting my understanding, Steve.

/Michael
