Well, we've been down this road before, but what the heck.
The servers are not mac-hating. The servers are multi-platform -- they
support all platforms, because it's wrong to assume that this stuff is read
ONLY on macs. Even on this list. It's not.
The old server let the mac-specific characters through because it was
BROKEN. The new one is actually doing what it's supposed to do, which is 7
bit characters. WE'll get 8 bit support when it's working right, not because
it's broken and happens to work mostly for most people most of the time,
except when it doesn't.
Let's stop pretending that the only thing in the world is the mac. It's not
true, hasn't been for a long time around here, if ever. And given that there
are dozens of lists and tens of thousands of users, any change I make for
the applescript lists has to be carefully managed to make sure I don't fix
it here by breaking someone else's list in some other way. It's NOT a
trivial fix, and not a trivial situation.
Now, Paul, do you have anything constructive to add to all this, or are we
going to just continue down this path? Sigh.
