Apple's latest version of the AirPort software, version 1.3, has just been
released on the Software Updates site. It includes an AirPort Scripting
osax. I'm an AirPort fan and user, so here are some details:
The new AirPort Scripting 1.3 osax has a fairly extensive dictionary. I
haven't actually written a script for it yet (I soon will). But, judging
from the dictionary, it allows you to write scripts to turn the Base Station
on or off, scan for available networks, join a network, create a network,
determine various features of the network (including the noise level, which
I believe is not available from the AirPort application), dial the Base
Station's modem, and check the Base Station's PPP status.
The dictionary is much more extensive than that in Larry Rosenstein's
AirPort Modem Utility 1.1
<
http://homepage.mac.com/lrosenstein/programs.html>, but there is still one
very important feature in his AirPort Modem Utility that is absent in
AirPort Scripting, namely, the ability to determine the IP address of the
Base Station. In addition, the AirPort Modem Utility can tell you whether
the Base Station modem is resetting, and the number of seconds remaining
until it finishes resetting; these facilities are not available in AirPort
Scripting, either.
