The answer is "yes, with caveats" and "perhaps." I'm not trying to be
obtuse, it's just that there are at least two answers depending on the
route you want to take.
I'll respond with the second answer first. That being, "can you make an
AppleScript that watches for a particular CD to be inserted and then
launches a file?" Yes, you can. You would create a stay-open applet
that would idle while waiting for a particular volume to be present.
Then your script would have the Finder select and open that file. The
caveat would be that the user could kill this applet and then nothing
would happen.
For the first answer, you can make a CD that has an Autoplay file
selected. You can use Toast (or, use another burn app with some special
instructions) and select the file for Autoplay . The caveats: the user
must have QuickTime setup for Autoplay of files from CDs (the default as
shipped, but can be easily turned off); the Autoplay filename must be 11
characters or less (you can use an alias if this is a problem). If you
need instructions for creating an Autoplay CD w/o Toast, let me know and
I'll post the info.
