Already sent this to Jason, meant to send to the list.
First Part ---------------------------------------------
Jason,
Thanks for the reply.I admit that I still do not fully comprehend the
many uses of Apple Script. I am "QUITE" new at it. So, what I may be
calling an inelegant solution may in fact be in fact, a stellar one.
I meant no offense to AS, I just figured that putting a scripting
button on a custom field, seemed like an extra "hunt" step. If I
could really break into the original pull down with res edit or find
a way to change it in AS, that would seem easier.
I am open to learning how if you can walk me through it. (I do know
how to attach a script to a custom button as previously mentions from
download) The earlier mentioned scripts for launching a Word
template, as far as I can tell, are only useful for a custom Launch
AS button in one of the custom configurable fields. Now, maybe I need
to just release my mental block to looking at it in that way. I am
thinking that it is easiest to just click on an address and look in
the upper right and use that menu for a letter or configuring a
template. But I suppose that I could choose the bottom right custom
field and attach an AS to that for the already mentioned Word scripts.
One thing I do not understand is, what should I do with the empty
field I am attaching the script to? As far as I can tell (still
ignorant of the uses of AS) the field has no use other than to anchor
the script. Is this the right way to think about it?
Thanks.
Dave
Second Part ---------------------------------------------
Eurika!
It was much simpler than I realized. I had not realized that the
factory button used actual scripts. Thank you for clarifying that.
My first problem was that I could not edit the MacWrite script. Kept
asking "Where is MacWrite?" So I opened it with CanOpener and pasted
the text into a new text editor document. But I don't quite know
enough to reshuffle it - yet.
My solution? I had already changed a Claris script to a WordPerfect
script. So, I simply pasted the name of the MacWrite script over the
Word Perfect script. Now Palm launched my template in my word
processor when I use the regular pull down menu. Later I will try to
change the name on the pull down but for now, I am happy. Thanks
again.
