Apple has a history of coming up with cool technologies, then stifling them
with poor implementation and inadequate promotion: QuickDraw GX, OpenDoc,
Newton... if it were not for the heroic efforts of a few enthusiasic
insiders, AppleScript might have gone the same way.
This is so true.
Take for example Microsoft Access. A crappy database tool, but
wherever you go, people ask you if you can use if to develop stuff.
This is because it has a marketing company (and a small monopoly,
true...) behind it.
If Apple would communicate to publishing companies what incredible
value using AppleScript can bring to their company, these companies
will start asking developers to use the technology.
Also, what Apple is not getting, is that when a site is integrated
with AppleScript solutions, the chance that it will go to the other
side is much lower.
Apple need to equate AppleScript in the minds of project managers
with efficiency and savings, and they will get the budgets moving in
our direction :,)
