Newbie - can't launch

Hello,
I joined this list because I am having trouble launching Apple Script. I am ready to learn more about Apple Script. I am running 8.6 on a 7600 with an XLR8 G3/400 and 512 Mgs memory.

Apple Script's Editor won't launch. I get the following error code when I try to launch the Script Editor, or edit a failed Apple Script: "Could not initialize the application because the dialect is not available."

What is missing? Does anyone know what that means?

I do not have 8.5 or 8.6 on a back up to do a reinstall. I bought this Mac used and it came with 8.5 already on the hard drive. Downloaded and installed 8.6 from Apple. Thanks.
