Downloaded and installed 8.6 from Apple. Thanks.

Go into your Scripting Additions folder in System folder. You should have a
folder called Dialects in there, and inside that a file called English
Dialect. If so, remove the folder to the desktop, then put the English
Dialect file back into the Scripting Additions folder. If there are any
other folders in there , remove them too and put just their inside
files back into SA folder. Restart computer.
There was some problem with folders in the SA folder. I thought it was
caused by AppleScript 1.4.3. or 1.5.5. (not your concern) but maybe it was
CarbonLib 1.2.5 or 1.3.1 (would be your concern). If this doesn't help, or
you can't find English Dialect anywhere, you probably have two choices. You
could get TomeViewer at versiontracker and use I to open the 8.6 Tome. You'd
probably find English Dialect there. Or you could try updating to
AppleScript 1.6 (or 1.4.3 if you can find it anywhere) , which might work
even though 1.6 is meant for OS 9.1. From AS 1.4.3 (OS 9.0) onwards, the
English Dialect is not needed - its functions are contained in the
AppleScript extension itself. Or just upgrade to OS 9.1.
