Hi,
There comes a time in every scripter's life when they finally write a
shippable 'application'. And since that time has, at long last, arrived for
my good self, I'm starting to think I'd better get my act together on those
tedious but slightly significant licence/boilerplate issues.
Like: if I want to release a library as open-source freeware, while also
being able to write my own closed-source shareware that builds on top of
those libraries (kind of like OS X does with Darwin). How then do I arrange
the tedious legal blurb so that I don't have to sue myself six months later
for breach of licencing terms, nor find that some joker's strolled off with
the open-source stuff, hacked it about a bit and is now flogging it back to
me at an increased price?
Gah.
So, anyone know about this stuff and is willing to give pointers? (Not
least bearing in mind that I'm a lowly Brit, and don't know that cribbing
licences commonly written in the US is entirely appropriate, or even
legally sound.)
(Or am I just being too paranoid, and a simple "Don't rip me off" would be
sufficient?;)
Thanks,
has
