Apple used to do a set of scripts for QT 4.1 & later. Examining these
provided a great place to get started. I went looking for the download and
found that it's been superceded by a set designed for use with QT 5 in OS X.
Many of them will probably work in OS 9, but I haven't checked. There's
almost certainly something in there that will be adaptable to do what you
need.
